How is God’s nature reflected in our need for meaningful and nurturing relationships?

We were designed with an innate longing to be mothered and fathered, to be mentored, encouraged, spurred on, and protected. As God’s very nature is relational—Father, Son, and Spirit coexisting as one—so as His image bearers our hearts are created for relationship.

What good news this is! To know that our desire—our need—to do life with others and have people come alongside us is God-given. It is by His design that we bend low to help each other in times of hardship and lift one another up to fulfill our purpose.

Karina’s story beautifully illustrates a Titus 2 woman: “Older women are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not slaves to excessive drinking. They are to teach what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and to love their children, to be self-controlled, pure, workers at home, kind, and in submission to their husbands, so that God’s word will not be slandered” (vv. 3–5).

Now, Karina is a single woman, so does DeLynn’s influence in her life not apply because her encouragement isn’t centered around motherhood and marriage? Of course not! The heart of Paul’s message is the importance of those farther along in life and faith helping those who are a few steps behind—passing on their wisdom and sowing encouragement in their hearts.
